Ombre Nails

We've all seen the ombre trend in hair for a while now, but have you seen ombre nails?  This trend is starting to pop up everywhere.  Celebrities such as Lauren Conrad have been seen rocking ombre nails.  There are a few ways to display your ombre nails.  You can take Lauren's approach and slowly fade colors nail by nail.  To do this, chose a color family such as blue or pink.  Paint the darkest color on your pinky finger and work your way nail by nail ending with the lightest color on your thumb (or you can start with your thumb and end with your pinky!).  Another way to wear create ombre nails is to fade the color from light to dark (or dark to light) on each nail.  I found a great tutorial here.  What do you think of this trend?  Would you rock ombre nails?

Denim Jackets

Hope Everyone had a great weekend!  It was so nice out!  We spent most of our weekend outside with our family that was visiting us for the weekend.. I was able to wear shorts and a maxi dress, which made me feel like summer is finally on its way.  While out and about in my maxi dress, I wanted something in case I got cold (at night, in the restaurant, and because I'm just always cold!).  However, I felt like a cardigan and a maxi dress just looked frumpy.  I've been seeing denim jackets everywhere lately, and they happen to look great with a maxi dress.  When I think of denim jackets, I'm transported back to the 80's when I thought they were cool.  Like all good fashions, they're making a comeback.  Celebrities are wearing them all the time, and every retail store has them on their floor.  Guess we all know what my next purchase is going to be!  I've listed a few of my favorites that I've found below.

Watercolor Trend

Watercolor fashions are on the rise.  Several celebs have been seen incorporating this trend into their red carpet style.

I love the feminine and romantic look it creates in a flowy dress.  Both the soft pastels and the bright colors mixed with the look of handmade brush strokes creates a unique and stylish look.  This trend can be found in anything from dresses to shoes.  Wear this as an all over piece, or as an accent to add an interesting pop of color

Floral Print

Yesterday was the first official day of Spring.  It sure didn't feel like Spring to me.  I was in Minneapolis where the temperature was a high of 21 degrees.  Yikes.  While I'm waiting for the weather to warm up (even back home in Atlanta), I'm dreaming of Spring appropriate clothing.  Floral print just screams "Springtime"!  You can find this print everywhere right now; anything from shoes, to pants, to accessories.  Make a bold statement with floral pants paired with a solid top, or add a subtle accent to your outfit with a clutch or a pair of pumps.  I've listed a few of my favorite floral pieces below.

Weekend Recap

With the Hubs being sick, we didn't do much this weekend.  I decided that Brayden needed new shorts and PJs since the weather is finally warming up.  So we headed to BabyGap.  They have so many cute things right now for Spring.  Check out these cute PJs and fun shorts.  B looks so cute in everything!

Gap

After the Gap, the Hubs needed to rest, so I decided to get B out of the house (so that the Hubs could actually get some rest!) and wander around Target.  I love all the Spring stuff that they have out right now.  I especially love this dresses and sandals.  And of course, they have cute shirts for B too!

Hope you had a great weekend too!  Happy St. Patty's day from our little leprechaun!

Crossbody Bags

Anyone who knows me, knows I love a BIG bag.  The bigger the better.  I'm always the one that has an umbrella, band aid  nail file, etc.  I'm always prepared.  I love the look of a big bag (plus it makes you look skinny!).  However, between carrying a diaper bag, a child and who knows what else, a large purse can sometimes be a hassle.  I guess I don't really need to bring my large Louie to the park, right?  A small crossbody bag is my solution.  They're everywhere lately.  They're small, but can still fit the necessities, they won't fall off my shoulder while I'm carrying 10,000 other things, and best of all, I love the bright spring colors that are out now.  I just need to decide which one to buy!

Fitness Fashion

I'm definitely sick of winter. Lately, I've been dreaming of spring and summer and vacationing on the beach.  However, then it hit me...I'm definitely not "bikini ready".  I have to admit, I've been really unmotivated lately.  In an effort to drag myself back to the gym, I started shopping (duh) around for fun fitness fashion and gear.  There's a lot of great stuff out there.  Maybe if I'm excited about all my new "gym stuff", I'll be excited to go to the gym.  Yep, that's how I'm selling it to myself.  I've listed some of my favorite finds below.  Enjoy!

Fishtail Braid

If you're looking to change up your everyday hairstyle, the fishtail braid is a great option.  Its a modern twist on the traditional braid.  Celebrities have recently been seen rocking this style on the red carpet.  Not sure how to achieve this style?  There's several tutorials online.  sheknows.com offers a simple step by step guide to get this look.  Try it out on your hair!

xoxo,
Jen

Fishtail Braid

Step 1: Prepare

Brush out your hair so it's smooth and tangle-free. This will make it easier for you to braid. If you're going for a messier look, add some product to your hair first to give it some texture. Bumble and bumble's Styling Wax will give you a messy but sturdy hold.

Step 2: Braid

Note: For an easier hold, put your hair into a loose ponytail before you start fishtail braiding. It will help keep your hair together.
Separate all of your hair into two sections. Now take a smaller section from one side and add it to the other. Next, do the same with the opposite side and add a subsection of hair to the opposite side. Continue this until you see the fishtail pattern forming. Depending on how thick you want your braid to be, add smaller sections of hair for a tighter braid or thicker sections of hair for a loose braid.

Step 3: Secure

Once you've finished braiding as far down as you can, secure the braid with a clear plastic tie. To keep hair in place, add a spritz of hairspray to the entire braid. Try Living Proof Hold Firm Hairspray for a tight hold. For a fun look, add a bow or flower clip at the end.

Leopard

Maybe I've been watching too much reality TV surrounding Jersey lately (Snooki and JWoww, Jerseylicious, etc.  I know, judge away) but I'm loving leopard!  You don't need to go overboard with head to toe leopard, but an accent or statement piece looks great.  I've listed a few of my favorite finds below.  Enjoy!

Spring Nail Polish

With Spring right around the corner, its time to trade in my dark nail polish (which I LOVE) for pretty pastels.  There's tons of great pastel nail colors to choose from.  My favorites are pinks, purples, and corals.  I love light blues, mints, and yellows too, but I never feel that I can pull them off.  Several brands have released their new spring collections. I've listed a few of my favorites below.  Enjoy!

Inspired by Pinterest

I have to admit, I wasn't really into the Superbowl last night.  The only thing I was looking forward to was Beyonce.  BTW, she killed it last night.  I almost died when Destiny's Child reunited on stage.  While the Hubs watched the game, I browsed around on Pinterest.  I came across this outfit and loved it!  Individually, the pieces are pretty basic, thus it was really easy to recreate.  I pulled pieces from Forever 21, Asos, and Lulu's to pull off an affordable copycat of this outfit.  Enjoy!

The hardest part is deciding which color(s) to get!

Black and White Style

Black and white fashions are everywhere lately.  It was a huge trend at the SAG awards with celebrities on the red carpet.

You don't have to be a celebrity to rock this style.  This trend can easily be incorporated into your everyday fashion.  I love the simplicity of a chic black and white look.  The style is so versatile.  Keep it simple with a black and white dress, or get a little crazy with polka dot pants.  And, with the abundance of bright colored accessories hitting the streets for Spring,  its easy to change the overall look with a splash of color.  See below for some of my favorite finds.

Rose Gold

I'm a huge fan of wearing gold, and I've finally jumped on the rose gold bandwagon.  I was weary at first because I wasn't sure what to wear with it (i.e. how to continue to rock my ever growing arm candy in rose gold instead of "regular" gold).  I was happy to discover so many great bracelets out there that mix and match beautifully with rose gold.  Below, I've posted a few pictures for inspiration as well as some of my favorite finds for rose gold arm candy.  I received the Michael Kors watch shown below for Christmas and I love it.  However, if you're not ready to commit to rose gold, and don't want to spend a lot, I found a great alternative at Nordstrom for only $18! (also shown below).  Enjoy!

Jen
